Outdoor Living

Summer is around the corner! All this warm weather makes it feel like summer is here already - and maybe you have already started pulling your cushions out of storage and getting the backyard ready for warm weather entertaining.
One of our goals when we moved into this house was to put up a waterproof patio cover so we could eat outside year round. Well, that hasn't happened yet but I wanted to share my ideas on creating the ultimate outdoor entertaining area just in time for summer!

1. Weather - Of utmost importance, especially if you live in an area that gets extreme weather, is to have a waterproof cover over the dining area. This will help with both sun and rain and the best part is, you can use it year round!

2. Seating - Whether you are dining, watching TV or relaxing by the pool, the seating situation is key. Figure out what you intend to use the space for, and then find seating to accommodate those activities! For example, if you want to put a TV in your outdoor space, a weather-proof sectional would be just the thing! If you are planning on having people over for dinner, consider in investing in a gorgeous outdoor table.

3. Kitchen - No matter what your purpose is for this space, having an outdoor kitchen is so helpful! Whether you decide to add a built-in barbecue, sink, fridge, or wet bar, it is so nice to have these amenities available so you don't have to keep going back and forth to the house. With an outdoor kitchen, you can relax outside all day.

4. Privacy - Not everybody owns property or has a huge backyard. If you live on a normal sized suburban lot, privacy is likely an issue for you, especially when you are trying to entertain outdoors. Consider putting in a privacy wall so you can enjoy yourself without worrying about who is watching. My favorite way to create privacy is with big, fun plants or trees so that natural privacy is created.

5. Whimsy - Quite possibly my favorite feature of outdoor spaces! Whimsy can include anything from lights, plants, candles, fireplace, etc. Anything to add a relaxing atmosphere to your space. Add whimsy as you see fit for your lifestyle and entertainment choices. These little touches make it feel like your own personal sanctuary. You can't go wrong if you do it in your own style!
