Around Here - January Events

Well, the holidays are over and winter is quickly approaching. I know a lot of people experience a let down once their favorite holidays have come and gone and there isn't as much to look forward to during the more drab, colder months. I have put together a calendar of events that will take place during the month of January in and around El Dorado County that will hopefully give you something to plan for!


Jan 5 @ 6pm: Free movie night featuring Sing at the Cameron Park Community Center

Jan 17 at 3:30pm: Lego Block Party at the El Dorado County Library - all the building blocks are provided to design, build and invent Lego creations! Bring the whole family! 

Jan 19 from 8-4: Friends of the Library Book Sale at the El Dorado Hills Library. All proceeds will provide new books and support ongoing programs at the library. More info at: edhlibraryfriends.org

Jan 20 from 10-4: Gold Discovery Day at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma - bring the whole family for tons of interactive activities, gold panning, music, and more

Jan 20 from 6-9pm: Art and Wine in the main building at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds with Motherlode Rehabilitation Enterprises - the best local art, food, wine and microbrews, plus raffles and auctions. Proceeds benefit adults with developmental disabilities. 

Jan 20 until 9pm: Third Saturday Art Walk in downtown Placerville (Main Street) - Art galleries and merchants stay open late to host art shows, shopping, dining + refreshments, entertainment, and demonstrations!

Jan 21 1-4pm: Amador Wedding Faire: Bring your friends or bridal party to Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort's Grand Oak Ballroom and taste fine cuisine by various catering services, see a bridal fashion show, and check out wedding decor and floral arrangements! If you can't make this one, Real Weddings Magazine has tons of other fairs to choose from! 

Jan 26 5:30-9:30pm: Spaghetti Feed at the Italian Picnic Grounds in Sutter Creek - serving spaghetti with meat sauce or pesto, salad, cheesy bread, and dessert, proceeds benefit the Amador Country Cemetery Board. 

Jan 27 at 5:30: El Dorado County Search and Rescue Council Crab Feed - all you can eat crab, no-host bar, and dancing at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in the Mark D. Forni Building. 

Jan 27: Folsom Jazz Festival at Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College - an annual high school jazz music competition featuring concerts and awards! More info at Folsommusic.org

Jan 28 from 12-3: Children's Activity and Preschool Expo at the Folsom Community Center. Jam packed with booths from more than 60 local preschools and children's activity businesses (Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay, Orangevale and more!) and you can enjoy a range of hands-on activities, crafts and entertainment while talking to the staff in person!
Admission is free!

Jan 31 at 7pm: An evening with a Holocaust Survivor - Rabbi Nissen Mangel - the youngest child prisoner at Auschwitz - will share his extraordinary story of survival. Tickets are $20 at the door, free for students. 



I love our area because there is always so much to do and experience! I hope this list helps you - especially if you are new to the area - and gives you some ideas to make some memories with your family!
